CAULFIELD, CAULFILED NORTH AND CAULFIELD SOUTH
Caulfield, Caulfield North and Caulfield Sourth are suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) south-east of Melbourne's central business district. Its local government area is the City of Glen Eira. At the 2011 Census, they had a population of 30,985.
Caulfield North has the largest Jewish population of any suburb in Australia: 6,522 (according to the 2011 census), representing 45% of its population.[1]
Caulfield Racecourse
Caulfield Racecourse is regarded as one of the best thoroughbred racing and events venues in Australia.
Steeped in history, racing was first held at the Caulfield Racecourse site in 1859. In Caulfield’s early days of racing, jockeys rode through rough bush, heath, and sand hills, earning Caulfield its affectionate nickname “The Heath”. The Heath at Caulfield Racecourse now fondly carries this nickname.
The pinnacle of racing at Caulfield is the BMW Caulfield Cup Carnival in Spring, comprising three days of outstanding racing through BECK Caulfield Guineas Day, Catanach's Jewellers Blue Sapphire Stakes Day and culminating in the BMW Caulfield Cup Day, featuring one of the world’s great 2400m handicap races.
Caulfield boast a number of great facilities for its members as well as the general public. The magnificent Rupert Clarke grandstand is glassed in for added comfort during winter and summer offering uninterrupted views of the mounting yard, home turn and winning post. In addition to the racing at Caulfield, many well known Victorian trainers and over 500 horses call Caulfield home.[2]
